This device is called a Lark Spit. It was used to cook small birds in front of or in an open fire. The device is essentially a small spit, featuring multiple sharp tines or prongs that the birds were impaled upon. It was also used for drying and cooking meat. These devices feature multiple pairs of prongs for impaling birds. It is adjustable allowing the spit to be raised or lowered for heat control. The stem is fixed to a tripod base by means of a large square nut, each leg terminating with an arrow-shaped foot. A pan was placed under the tripod to catch dripping fat.
